About the Translator

The world is a book and those who do not travel read but a page

St. Augustine

The seeds of wanderlust developed in me at a young age: growing up in the East Riding of Yorkshire, the rolling countryside provided many opportunities for adventure; the distant horizon suggesting a world that begged to be explored.

At eighteen the allure of the capital worked its magic. A degree in Spanish and Italian at Royal Holloway University of London was to be my next adventure. An adventure that brought with it a year abroad studying at the prestigious University of Salamanca in Spain and University of Pisa in Italy. Here my love affair with languages truly blossomed.

After graduating, I spent a year in South America teaching at the University of Ecuador in Ambato. Here, I experienced my first taste of professional translation. I was intrigued by the translation process: the challenges it presented, the art of transferring a message faithfully and accurately from one language into another.

I soon struck a  balance between teaching and translation. Work led me back to London and then back to the Spanish peninsula where I spent a year in Cáceres, Extremadura. After that, I spent two years in Sardinia, Italy, to polish and maintain my level of spoken and written Italian.

Continuing professional development brought me back to England with an MA in Translation Studies at the University of Hull. Studying the theory behind translation allows a translator to face linguistic challenges with reasoning.

Theory and practice combined together allow a translator to draw on practical experience and subject knowledge to create translations that are not only accurate, but also reflect the unique demands and expectations that every text sets out to achieve.

Robinson Translations is therefore the culmination of theory and practice, driven by a passion for languages and the desire to never stop learning.
